Ocean
of Sadhanas (Drupthap Gyatso) Initiation Cycle from the Collection of All the Sadhanas
COMPLETE CYCLE:
Monday, August 11 through Saturday, August 23.
9:30 am until approximately 5:30 pm each day
The Collection of All the Sadhanas is one of the most important initiation cycles in Tibetan Buddhism. It contains nearly 1000 initiations from all the Tibetan Buddhist schools and is indispensable for those seriously interested in the study of Vajrayana. It was previously bestowed only in
India
approximately once per decade. Now Tsechen Kunchab Ling Temple has requested senior Sakya lineage holders to bestow this precious initiation cycle for the first time in the West.
Because it is very extensive, the cycle is typically given in portions over a period of several years. This year’s portion will be the approximately 140 initiations in the
Ocean
of
Sadhanas
(Drupthap Gyatso) initiation cycle. These initiations originated from the ancient lineage of the Indian Mahasiddha Abayakara, and were translated by Yarlung Lotsawa Dragpa Gyaltsen, after which they entered the Sakya tradition. The initiations include many different tutelary deities, Bodhisattvas, wealth deities, and Dharma protectors such as Manjushri, Avalokiteshvara, Vajrapani, Tara, Yamari, Mahakala, Jambala, Heruka, and many others. Receiving these initiations prepares students for study and practice of a wide variety of tantras. Prior attendance at previous years' bestowal of other initiations in the Collection of All the Sadhanas is not required.
